Steely Dan
I was and still am a huge fan of the cowriters and musicians Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker.
Back in 2001 I was going to fly to Florida early Monday morning from RI to go fishing with my business partner Michael and his dear friend Larry. I had to pick Larry up on my way to the airport and meet Michael in FL. The night before the trip I had the craziest dream of being in the recording studio at Berklee College of music (where I learned the craft of recording and producing music) with the aforementioned Becker and Fagen. They were mixing new Steely Dan songs that I had never heard but were masterful. It was an amazing dream. When I picked up Larry at 5 am, I very excitedly told him all about the dream. He thought I was a little Steely Dan whacky for sure.
We had a great fishing trip with more laughs than fish. Thus, this story is not really a fishing story!
When I returned home just before midnight on Wednesday, I opened the mail that was in a small pile on the kitchen counter. Amongst the mail there was an invitation from Berklee College of Music for me to meet and dine with Walter Becker and Donald Fagen….It was a great evening and is presently enshrined on youtube when during the performance of Berklee Students playing Steely Dan songs for Walter and Donald, the two were introduced and stood up in the audience. My friend David Lydon and I were sitting directly in front of them. The dream although did not come completely true, it was an indication that we can sometimes see through layers of time.
